PETALING JAYA : A school van driver, who was detained for an investigation into the death of a five-year-old boy, will be charged tomorrow at the Batu Pahat sessions court, police said.
Sinar Harian quoted Iskandar Puteri police chief M Kumarasan as saying that the 56-year-old man was remanded for seven days beginning May 1 under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which covers neglect and negligence involving a child.
The suspect was arrested at 2.40pm in Taman Bukit Indah on the same day the child was found unconscious inside the van. He later died.
The child is believed to have been accidentally left behind in the van after the driver finished dropping off other students at a kindergarten at around 7.30am. He was found unconscious around noon.
Kumarasan said the suspect tested negative for drugs and has no prior criminal record.
